~Learning Blog Post:
1. Today in class some of us finished our book evaluations. Then we each got our own booklet on "How to Take Notes" we started the exercises on note taking from the booklet and will finish them tomorrow. Ms. Lees also helped thode people who wern't sure how to, or couldn't post their "Letter to the Editor" .
2. We worked on the note taking exercises so that later on it would be easier for us to do them.  Also so that we could proparly take notes that we could actually use and understand later in the term by learning about the main different formats of note taking. It's so that we can have good notes to study from throughout the year without them being messy, scrambled and cofusing.
3. The skills we learned today will be helpfull in all of our other subjects because note taking should and can be related to every class.
4. There was no homework from today but make sure to post your "Letters to the Editor" on the Woodleighville blog.
5. I don't have any tips other then maybe read over your booklet so that your more familiar with the information.

Today In Class We ...

Today in class we worked on our Woodleighville editorial responses. We were to edit them again but with a different person then before. Then you had to get your response check by Ms.Lees, if she told you your response was good, you could post it.

We were to complete editing /posting today because Australia is one day ahead of us. It would be good so they could read our responses and get an idea of our thought on the issues in Woodleighville. They might even want to write a response back to us about what we wrote to them.

This taught us constructive/positive feedback also to share our perspective on different topics occurring at Woodleighville. This would help now and in the future because it is important to give someone feedback that helps them improves, but not in a negative way that would hurt their feelings. Also by sharing our perspective is good because we had to think of a situation in someone else’s shoes and to make connections.

If you didn’t post your Woodleighville editorial response yet, and you know how, then you should post it in the reply section at the bottom of Morris Ward blog. The link to this is found at Ms.lees blog (http://leeshum8.blogspot.ca). You could try to copy and paste your response, but if it doesn’t work, just make it and link and post it. If you hadn’t had Ms.Lees check your response or don’t know how to, don’t post it yet. You could share it on Google Docs (lees_v@surreyschools.ca) or if you’re having trouble just wait until tomorrow and she’ll help you.

Ms.Lees suggested to link picture or videos so the people of Woodleighville could get a better understanding of our descriptions, also to connect with our own experiences.

If you hadn’t handed your interim yet, signed by your parents, than you should hand it in ASAP!

Good start to your learning blog posts!

Looks like you are remembering all the parts required. Next step for your group is to expand further. We will discuss in class.

Tip: the ones that are easiest to follow have subheadings or separate paragraphs for each part of the post.

WHAT WE DID TODAY!!!!!

Today in class we wrote small reviews on 7 books, my favorite one was the one about the samurai, the other books seemed quite boring to me but this one was exiting and kinda funny. Today we didnt do as much as we usually do so i find it hard to write about what we did because the only thing we pretty much did was write about the 7 books! We did this today because we needed to practice our writing and reading skills so our teacher could see where we are at and pick an appropriate book for us and we could read that! These skills could help us in real life because if i were to become a blogger or a book reviewer these skills would make me suceed in doing so! The only homework for today is to do your blogger post if today is your day but other then that, im pretty sure there is nothing.

Learning Blog Post

Today in the 1st block, we worked on refining our letters to the editor for Woodleighville. As a class, we discussed the criteria and learning intentions of these letters. We agreed that our letters had to be multi-paragraphed, have a formal/persuasive tone, connect to the residents, and agree or disagree with what was going on; pictures, links, podcasts, and alternate suggestions for problem solutions were optional. We also discussed that we are doing this project for practise of opinion-based persuasive writing, letter formats, gathering knowledge, and making connections between problems and our own experiences/knowledge. In the 2nd block, we worked on our Genius Hour projects. The teacher discussed our outlines with us individually, and we got electronic devices to start research on our projects.
We refined our letters to the editor so that we can know why we are doing it and to have us sound literate when we send them out. After that, we worked on our Genius Hour project to get started on it, and to narrow/specify the topic and get advice from the teacher.
The class discussion about the letters was useful to me because I wasn't entirely sure of what the letters should be like and what they should contain, but now I have a clearer idea of that. Both letter refining and Genius Hour could apply to my future life, like when I do more projects or when I write letters to the editor to be put in the newspaper.
There was no homework assigned to us for Friday, but you can work on your Genius Hour projects or your letters if you like.
Tips: When you write your letter, read it over to yourself to make sure it sounds good and makes sense - this will help catch any mistakes you may have made. Also, if you need to make a small change in your Genius Hour project plan, feel free to tell the teacher and do it.

Learning Blog-2

1.       Today in class we were in the library. While we were in the library we went over the four main points we were supposed to read about on the Woodleighville Morris Ward at home last night, the four main points were 1. Recovering From Cyclone Mike, 2. Rioting Recovery, 3.Should we install CCTV camera’s and 4. Do we want a WOLDI superstore. After we re-read over the four main points of the Woodleighville Morris Ward , we chose one of the main points that we would like to talk about with the authors of The Woodleighville Morris Ward and debate whether we are for or against them on their opinion. We wrote a letter to The Woodleighville Morris Ward on Google docs but did not send it yet. Are letter is supposed to be 2-4 paragraphs long. Just to remind you one paragraph is 5-9 sentences long.

2.       We did this today to practice our grammar and spelling skills. We were also learning how to save and send a good letter with positive and negative ideas.

3.       These skills might help me in the real life when I am maybe using my own blog or if you ever want to help someone in a different country after you saw their troubles.  These skills also might help you if your in Info Tech and you need to make a blog post or need to make a word doc. This could also help me in my own learning if I want have a job that involves technology when I am older.

4.       The only homework we have for tomorrow is to finish up our letter to theWoodleighville Morris Ward if we can and to do our genius hour if we want.

5.       If you want to make sure your grammar and spelling is good you should first do your letter to the Woodleighville Morris Ward in Microsoft Word, then copy and paste to google docs.

~Learning Blog Post:

1. Today in class we went over how to create a learning blog and also how to post onto our blogging groups as an author. Then we went onto the blog of a class in Austrlia that had created a fictional town, to look over their progress and review the problems that the town was having (recovering from a cyclone, recovering from rioting ect..) so we could late write them "letter's to the editor" with our opinions on the conflicts of the town. At the end of class Ms.Lees collected all of our short story pages (the foreshadowing, plot diagrams and think alouds) and our textbooks.
2. We  did this ^ today so that we knew how to post onto our blog groups without problems and so we were familiar with all the problems in "Woodleighville" when the time came to write our letters to the editor.
3. The skills we learned were useful to me because before today I didn't know how to post onto our group blogs, I just knew how to comment.
4. The homework was to read over the "Town Of Woodleighville" and read some "letters to the editor" from local newspapers.
5. Some homework tips are while reading about the conflicts in Woodleighville reflect on how you would react in that position and your opinion(s) on the matter.

Well done group!

Some good things happening with your blogging:
  • I like the animated poll and graph - none of mine were that fun.  You will have to share with us how you found it.
  • Maya - I can see you are still having difficulty posting.  It is ok to post as a comment and then we will fix it on Monday.

Space Jump Response

At first I didn’t believe it was true that a man could jump from space down to earth. I thought it must have been fake for sure. But once I watched the video I thought WOW! I thought for sure he would die. I know if I was him I would have fainted half way down or chickened out and not jump. But to be honest I would never do that in the first place. I was amazed at how fast he went down to earth, breaking a world record! That’s pretty impressive. He has lots of guts to do that jump. I am still wandering why he would want to do that? Risk his life just to break a world record? I would never do anything to risk my life if it’s just for breaking a record. Well all and all he’s got way more guts than I do and congrats to the space jumper! J

Space Jump Response

My first thought when watching this video was how it would feel to actually do the jump. First of all, there are many risks that could kill someone during the jump, like a malfunction in the space suit or the parachute, so they would have to overcome the fear of these risks. Before jumping, they would have to go through long, intense training, and they only get one try at it and one moment to experience what it's like. Also, because the whole world is waiting for them in suspense, they could either land successfully and become famous, or they could die. Because the whole world would be on their shoulders, that could cause them to be more reluctant to do the jump. The people watching from the base were very focused and got excited whenever the jumper achieved something, like a new record. In conclusion, no one would attempt to do the job unless they wanted to do it their entire life.

Space Jump Response

Before he jumped, I thought that Felix was going to die or just not do the jump. If I were in his place, I would be terrified and just not complete it. There are many things that could’ve gone wrong, like falling in the wrong way or if the Parachute got stuck. Felix however was brave and jumped form outside of the sound barrier. While he was falling I was afraid that he would’ve exploded or not have had enough air. Fortunately he landed safely and is still alive. Felix broke the world record and must be pleased with himself. I’m glad that he did the jump and that nothing awful happened.

THE BEST SPACE JUMP REACTION - By: Richard D

My reaction to the space jump was that, at first I was extremely astonished that he was going to jump down to earth just outside the atmosphere despite the dangers and the fact that if something were to go wrong he would probably end up dying, but still he was brave enough to do it! After seeing him land, I was surprised that he didn't faint or just be thankful that he was alive, but it looks like he was more happy about doing it or braking the record then that he was not in 500 pieces, If I were to do the same thing that this crazy man just did going down to earth at around 700 mph I would probably have a heart attack in mid-air! I am also quite surprised that his family just let him do something this nuts, I mean my parents would never let me do this and if I ever did, they would be more happy that I was alive then more happy about me breaking a world record even though that's actually pretty darn awesome!
